Timothy Sammons started the company in 1995, after qualifying as a solicitor and working for Sotheby’s for 14 years, running the Chinese art department in Hong Kong and New York and setting up the company’s Trusts and Estate Department in London.
Based on this experience, the company was founded to address a growing demand among sellers of major collections and works of art for truly impartial advice and representation in their dealings with tax and heritage authorities, auction houses, and private treaty sales. The function was to provide and implement unified individual strategies for the sale of important, complex and valuable properties. For the first time it brought together all of the intertwined elements of valuation, tax planning, organisation and marketing which go towards maximising revenue for a seller.
This was expanded to provide similarly impartial advice to buyers of works of art: both new collectors embarking on buying art for the first time, and experienced collectors seeking particular works of quality and importance.
